Complex Tigresses dedicated their 110-14 victory over Aquaid Queens on Sunday to their team manager Hellen Mpinganjira, who got married to Anthony Bert Tasosa, the previous day.

This was the team’s first match of the 2014/15 OG Issa Southern Region Netball League (SRNL) season at the Blantyre Youth Centre (BYC) where they also earned a 150-0 bonus win over Gold Sisters, who were penalised for their late arrival at the venue.

“This win is a gift to our beloved team manager who got married yesterday. As she goes out for a honeymoon, we want her to know that we wish her a happy marriage and a long life,” said Tigresses coach Peace Chawinga-Kalua.

Although Tigresses led 31-2, 58-7 and 89-12 in the first three quarters respectively, Aquaid could still afford a broad smile at the end of the encounter considering the fact that this was the first time they have scored more than 10 baskets against their bigger opponents.

Moreover, Aquaid’s performance appeared sturdy and well built as compared to what they showed last season. For once, Tigresses stars Beatrice Mpinganjira and Grace Mwafulirwa Mhango danced to the tune of Aquaid’s rising stars attacker Joso Kadzombe and shooter Thoko Chimaliro, whose only weaknesses were lack of pace and physique.

In other games, Diamonds and MTL Queens also got off to resounding victories at the BYC on Saturday. Diamonds Thrashed Chilomoni Sisters 80-28 before scraping through to a 53-21 win over Zomba-based Prison Sisters. MTL Queens beat Aquaid 81-15 and Shizaella Sisters 53-15.

Despite that, Shizaella are still at the summit of the 12-team log table with 12 points from five games; four wins and a loss.
