TNM donates K0.5m to ABJ

Mobile telephone service provider, TNM has donated K500 000 to Association of Business Journalists (ABJ) towards the association’s two day annual general meeting to be held in Mulanje from Friday to Sunday..

The AGM is set to highlight and reflect issues in relation to business reporting and to sharpen the skills of business journalists in the country.

abjTNM head of marketing division Sobhuza Ngwenya said their company understands and appreciates the contribution business journalist’s lender to the business community hence the donation.

“The media is the channel that interprets our messages to the community which is one of the key factors that helps our business grow. It is for such that we thought of donating this money to help ABJ’s meeting to enhance more skills on how to report better,” he said.

In his remarks, ABJ deputy national coordinator Aubrey Mchulu said the association is grateful for the timely donation which will go along a way in assisting the association.

He said the meeting will focus and reflect on the contributions of business journalism to the economic growth and the trend of business reporting since the formation of the association with aim to shape the art of business reporting.

“We have to note that business reporting has made people understand the economic trends in the society. It is for such that have held this meeting to enhance and share experiences of business reporting,” he said.

According to ABJ, the AGM will be run from Saturday to Sunday under the theme ‘Realising the value of Malawi’s business journalism, 50 years on’.

ABJ was formed in 2007. It consists of over 40 members from various media houses who are dedicated to business reporting.

Among other stakeholders who contributed to ABJ towards the meeting are Tobacco Control Commission (TCC), Central East African Railways (Cear), Old Mutual, FD Communications and Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (Macra) and Hapuwani Hotel.
