TNM yesterday put a bold mark of support towards Cricket Academy (CA) development in the country with a donation of five bowling machines worth K10.3 million.

The company’s head of marketing Sobhuza Ngwenya presented the equipment to CA’s director Vivek Ganesan at St Andrew’s International High School in Blantyre.

The machines will help the academy in its ambition to attempt the longest individual net session on the Guinness World Book of Records in July this year.

Ngwenya said they decided to provide the equipment to contribute towards the rapid development of the game in the country and also to appreciate the academy’s great deal of accountability on the company’s already existing K24 million four-year cricket sponsorship since 2012.

“We have sponsored many sports disciplines in the country, but the level of accountability on the money we provide to this academy is second to none. They have every single detail of what they have done with the money,” said Ngwenya.

According to Ganesan, who is also Malawi Cricket Union (MCU) president, apart from helping the academy’s objective of beating the UK record of playing cricket non-stop for 27 hours, the machines will as well assist MCU on its coaching courses in schools and townships across the country.

Ganesan said, currently, their cricket development project involves 1 800 youths, including 800 girls aged between seven and 18 from Blantyre townships of Lunzu, Bangwe, Ndirande and Kachere.

He said later this year the scheme will embrace four primary schools in Lilongwe and another four schools in Mzuzu.
