Sponsors of the TNM Super League have finally succumbed to calls for review of the man-of-the-match prize.
This follows a story published last month in Nation on Sunday in which players and officials of defending champions Silver Strikers, Mighty Wanderers, Blantyre United, Mafco, Blue Eagles, Big Bullets, Civo United and Moyale Barracks asked for better prizes.
While giving reference to Zimbabwean and South African premiership leagues, interviewees said man-of–the-match awardees should pocket at least K40 000 and K200 000 in league and cup games respectively.

On his part, TNM head of marketing Sobhuza Ngwenya said Thursday in an interview that the prize of a TNM branded T-shirt and cap is not attractive.
He said his office is working on adopting a system that will ensure the prize is not fixed.

“Man-of-the-match prize is there to motivate players and there is a point in calling for review of the prize. It is our wish to keep it attractive and we are already working on this,” said Ngwenya.
He said the new prize will be unveiled during the next round, which kicks off next month.  n
