Tobbacco processors donates K62m relief items Fredy survivors


Tobacco Processors Association (TPA) of Malawi has donated relief items worth $60 000 (about K62 million) to Cyclone Freddy survivors living in different camps in Mulanje District.


The donated items, which have been distributed to 900 households, included maize flour, sugar, salt, Likuni Phala, beans, personal hygiene soap, cooking oil, sanitary pads, tissue, toothpaste, and solar pumps.


Speaking after handing over the items, a representative of the association, who is also JTI Leaf Malawi social programmes lead, Elvis Sukali said they stand in solidarity with the people.


He said: “We have all borne witness to the human suffering and devastating losses recorded as a result of the
“As TPA, we As a responsible stakeholder our immediate response has been to implement a $60 000 emergency relief package to support affected communities in Mulanje district.”

Sukali said TPA engaged Roundtable in the selection and distribution exercise.
One of the beneficiaries, Joan Kaliwo said the donation will help to alleviate some of her suffering.


TPA is a company limited by guarantee comprising three processing companies, Alliance One Tobacco (Malawi) Limited, Limbe Leaf Company Limited and JTI Leaf Malawi Limited.


Each of the three companies contributed $20 000 towards the initiative.
