Political pressure group Transformation Alliance (TA) board has appointed Leonard Chimbanga as the grouping’s spokesperson effective October 10 2016.

In an appointment letter signed by TA administrative secretary Charles Mwambiyale to Chimbanga dated October 7 2016, the grouping said it believes that Chimbanga, as a long-time advocate of youth leadership, will use his “impeccable” experience and network to help transform Malawi through the core objectives of TA.

Reads the letter in part: “Nonetheless, the alliance wishes to warn you against any attempts to advance personal and not public interest as such have potential to defeat the core values of the alliance.

“Take note, therefore, that you will be required to sign an undertaking to ensure your strict observance and adherence to the constitutional provisions without any compromise.”

In his acceptance letter dated October 9 2016, Chimbanga said having gone through TA’s objectives, he takes the appointment as challenging, but will not relent in ensuring that the grouping successfully serves the public interest and safeguards the future of Malawi.

Chimbanga unsuccessfully contested for the Dedza East parliamentary seat in the May 20 2014 Tripartite Elections on the United Democratic Front (UDF) ticket.

TA was formed in August this year with a voice that Malawi urgently needs a complete overhaul of its political system to resolve prevailing political and socio-economic “calamities”.

Its interim chairperson is Moses Kunkuyu, the first Cabinet minister to be appointed by former president Joyce Banda when she assumed power in April 2012 after the death of president Bingu wa Mutharika. n
