Malawi-Liverpool-Welcome Trust (MLW), under the project Art in Global Health, has partnered contemporary artist Elson Kambalu in disseminating research information.

The artist will hold various shows in Malawi with the biggest event in Chikhwawa on 29 September dubbed Kafukufuku Arts Festival.

The event will bring together other artists such as music giants Soldier Lucius Banda, Lulu, Joseph Nkasa and Agorosso who through various performances will highlight different aspects of research.

Said Kambalu: “I will combine different methods such as drama, photography, poetry, music and exhibitions which will particularly pick at themes of blood, consent, men’s involvement in health issues, language barriers in research, attitudes, distance and traditional medicine.”

MLW science communications officer Tamara Chipasula said the project is being run in five other countries–United Kingdom, Kenya, South Africa, Thailand and Vietnam.

“Artists will translate research into art work which will inform and entertain the general public,” she said.

Art in Global Health was launched in April this year and is expected to run until November.
