Former Civo and Flames player Derek Somanje, who has relaunched his career at Kamuzu Barracks (KB) is among 12 players from the team who are undergoing military training at the Malawi Armed Forces College (Mafco) in Salima.

The other players are Lemani Nthara, Amon Mhango, Farik Dyton, Takondwa Issa, Ben Issa, Julius Mnkwinja, Steve Maloni, Gift Mbwana, Steve Unyolo, Dennis Banda and Jeffery Gondwe.

The Nation discovered that since the recruits started training, the 12 are released every Friday to fulfil Chipiku Central Region Football League (CRFL) assignments and return to base on Monday.

KB coach Joseph Chilapondwa confirmed that 12 of his players have joined MDF.

KB are eyeing Super League promotion and they are in a tough race against Adams FC and Support Battalion.

“At this stage, we cannot afford to play without them. They are important to this campaign and that is why they are released at the weekends to join the team,” said Chilapondwa.
