Two arrested over subsidy fertiliser in Zomba

Reports of theft of subsidised fertiliser refuse to die as police in Zomba have arrested two people suspected to have broken into a building where they allegedly stole 10 bags of the low-cost fertiliser.

Eastern Region police spokesperson Thomeck Nyaude identified the suspects as Christopher Mulinga, 35, and Nelson Makondetsa, 43.

He said the two suspects on the night of October 28, 2012 broke into the building which is a selling point for subsidised fertilisers at Nsondole Traditional Court in Sub-Traditional Authority Nkagula in the district.

“The two suspects stole 10 bags of Urea fertiliser valued at K120 000. Mulinga is a guard at the place and it seems he connived with Makondetsa to commit the crime,” said Nyaude.

He added that the police have since recovered six of the 10 bags and investigations are underway to recover the remaining bags.

Both suspects come from Zomba.
