Police in Malawi’s Northern Region district of Mzuzu have arrested Bruce Mtegha, (38) and Edward Nkhoma, (45) on allegation that they killed Chimwemwe Jere aged 38.

Mzuzu Police Station deputy spokesperson Cecilia Mfune said in a statement that on Monday the two had since admitted to have killed Jere.

Mfune: They admitted to the charge

She said on November 23 this year, the deceased left her house at Hilltop to visit her boyfriend in Masasa, but did not return.

“Three days later, at around 9 am, she was found dead in an uncompleted house, but in a decomposed state while covered with a blanket. Deep cuts were observed on the head and the left hand was chopped off.

“Police carried out investigations which led to the arrest of the two,” she said.

According to Mfune, the suspects have voluntarily admitted to have killed the woman claiming the deceased was dating both of them.

“They claimed to have decided just to terminate her life. A post-mortem which was conducted at Mzuzu Central Hospital indicated death was due to severe loss of blood,” she said. n
