Malawi will this year send two representatives to the inaugural Miss Curvy Africa to be held in Zimbabwe in August.

Organisers of the local Miss Curvy said they have chosen to send Karen Msiska and Clara Namondwe to represent the country out of the 14 girls who qualified to take part in the competition from the auditions held earlier this year.

According to Excite Holdings, Malawi is supposed to send two representatives (a queen and first princess).

“We had planned to crown the Miss Curvy Malawi by April, but the programme was marred by lack of commitment by contestants. We advertised for registration, but very few came forward. We went around scouting for contestants and we only got 14 and four were not committed,” said Diana Liabuba, who is Excite Holdings public relations officer.

On how they have identified the two, Liabuba said her officer submitted the names after getting communication from Miss Curvy Africa a few weeks ago to submit the names.

She said, her office, together with the judges was forced to scrutinise the quality of the girls registered for the crown.

“Of the 10, only three met the criteria for Miss Curvy Africa. These are Msiska, Blessings Nyembere and Namondwe in order of points scored. However, Nyembere has problems with travel documents and we have replaced her with Namondwe,” said Liabuba.

She said Namondwe and Msiska are 1.7, 1.72 tall and 42 and 44 hip size respectively.

Miss Curvy Africa, which is the first of its kind, is brain-child of the Miss curvy Zimbabwe. It is welcoming contestants from all African countries.

Organisers of the Miss Curvy Zimbabwe announced their intention to host the continental contest last year and this prompted Malawi through Excite Holdings to introduce, Miss Curvy Malawi late last year.
