The opposition United Democratic Front (UDF) on Thursday dispatched nomination forms nationwide for interested candidates to contest for various positions during the party’s October 31 convention.

The interested candidates, including the 2014 presidential aspirants, are expected to fill the forms and return them to the party’s secretariat seven days before the date of the national convention, according to the party’s secretary general (SG) Kennedy Makwangwala.

In an interview on Sunday, he advised eligible UDF members willing to participate in the party elections to collect the nomination forms from UDF offices across the nation and return them if they want to be considered as contestants.

Said Makwangwala: “We trust UDF bona fide members know the procedures. There are set procedures they are supposed to follow and the earlier they do that, the better. Those in doubt can always make enquiries.”

He said they are going ahead with the indaba despite threats from the Friday Jumbe camp to stop the convention.

The Jumbe camp has threatened to take unspecified action to stop the convention.

But the Makwangwala camp on Sunday repeated their determination, saying they are prepared to fight every obstacle and hold the convention.

The Makwangwala camp last week started flying adverts of the convention scheduled to be held at Comesa Hall in Blantyre.
