The National Netball Umpires Committee (Nnuc) would like to use the OG Issa Southern Region Netball League’s (SRNL) first-round break to conduct a refresher course for umpires, coaches and team managers on rules at the Blantyre Youth Centre (BYC) on Saturday.

Nnuc vice-chairperson Faggie Mwalweni said last weekend it has been a while since the qualified umpires, coaches and team managers had reviewed netball rules and this resulted in squabbles during matches.

She said only interested individuals should come to attend the course which she will conduct with the help of Nnuc chairperson White Mlilima. Participants will pay K500 ($1.25) registration fees and they will use their own expenses.

“Conflicts during games are dangerous because they scare away sponsors. Most conflicts emanate from the poor understanding of netball rules among the umpires, coaches and team managers, hence the refresher course,” she said.

Mwalweni said they will also ask Malawi Queens’ technical director Griffin Saenda and former national team assistant coach Mary Waya to help them during the day-long self-sponsored training.
