Understanding prophets will take time, says Bushiri

As over 50 Malawi prophets today gather at the Golden Peacock Hotel in Lilongwe for their conference, Enlightened Christian Gathering leader Shepherd Bushiri has said it will take some time for Malawians to understand the prophets.

In an interview yesterday, Bushiri, who has convened the prophets, said taking time to grasp new religious notions is no new thing.

bushiri“People find it difficult to accept new things. When traditional churches were introduced in the country, a lot of people didn’t trust them. When Protestantism came, they met similar cases. We serve a living God and one day, Malawians will understand and accept the prophetic ministry,” said Bushiri.

Among other things, Bushiri said the conference will foster among prophets who have at times given conflicting revelations and honour pioneers of the ministry.

“Not everyone who calls themself a prophet is really sent from God. Others have taken this as a way of stealing from people in the name of giving out prophecies. The Bible tells us how we can test prophets so I leave that to them to see the works of those who claim to be prophets,” he said.

The prophets, he said, will also discuss the floods that have devastated Malawi and how they can support financially, materially and spiritually.
