Usi for mindset change among HR professionals

Vice-President Michael Usi has challenged human resource professionals to embrace mindset change to help develop the country.

He said this on Thursday at Sunbird Nkopola in Mangochi during this year’s Human Resource Society of Malawi (HRSM) annual conference being held under the theme ‘Actualising HRSM’s Vision: Promoting Excellence in HR Practice’.

Usi described the human resource profession as a catalyst for the country’s economy; hence, embracing mindset change can help the country achieve Malawi 2063 with ease.

He said: “I am happy with this conference because it is in line with the MW2063, the country’s development blueprint, which has mindset change and human capital development.

“Mindset change is crucial for human capital development because it breaks the cycles of poverty.”

The Vice-President stressed that a growth mindset helps individuals believe they can improve their circumstances, saying this leads to self-investment in education and health.

To this effect, Usi implored the human resource practitioners to capitalise on their existence to implement interventions that bring positive change to the country.

“Be impactful to the country and strive to be models of excellence to give your profession relevance,” he advised.

In his remarks, HRSM vice-president Benson Jackson said as professionals they are committed to bringing positive impact through their work.

“As a society and, of course, as HR professionals, we exist to provide solutions to many problems befalling the country in areas of human capital and development.

“This is the reason we always gather here to share knowledge and skills that can develop the country. We are, therefore, committed to helping bring change,” he said.

During the conference, the HRSM also launched its first five-year (2024-2029) Strategic Plan.
