Vice-President (VP) Saulos Chilima has accepted to undergo the ice water bucket challenge as nominated by Nedbank (Malawi) Limited managing director Paul Guta last week.

According to a statement from the Veep’s press officer Pilirani Phiri, Chilima has accepted to take the challenge, which will take place next week at his office in Lilongwe.

“The VP is into it because the raised funds will go towards charity. In fact, of late, philanthropists such as Bill Gates have done it to promote charity. So, he [Chilima] will do it and we will probably send the money raised to an orphanage we will identify,” reads the statement.

Speaking in an interview, Guta said he was humbled that the VP has accepted his nomination.

“It shows the Right Honourable Vice-President understands the importance of this initiative of allowing to be poured ice water to help raise funds for the underprivileged,” said Guta.

The ice water bucket challenge is an initiative involving unloading a bucket of ice and water over someone’s head to promote charity.
