Veteran broadcaster Joyce Deliwe Ng’oma—remembered fondly for her distinct calming motherly voice when presenting Chorus for Sunday at MBC in the 1990s—died in Blantyre on Thursday.

At around 5:15 pm, Ng’oma succumbed to a year-long battle against cancer at Mwaiwathu Private Hospital in Blantyre, the deceased’s daughter, Mbachi, said yesterday.

MBC’s acting director general Aubrey Sumbuleta hailed the late Ng’oma for serving the corporation “with zeal, dedication and commitment as a senior producer” in religious and musical programmes, adding that “during her time she has mentored countless members of staff.”

Burial is scheduled for tomorrow at HHI Cemetery preceded by a funeral service at St Columba CCAP Church in Blantyre—a city where she also worked for Power FM 101 after leaving MBC at the turn of the century.

A widow since 1972, the late Ng’oma was 72 and is survived by three biological children and “many more others she raised up,” Mbachi said.

The late Ng’oma was originally from Jenda, James Chirwa Village in Mzimba District.
