Victor Nyirenda won’t join Flames

Flames forward Victor Nyirenda, who is in the country on holiday, has said he will not join the Flames.

Nyirenda, who arrived on Tuesday, said it would be difficult for him to join the national team without his Vietnamese First Division club Dong Nai’s consent.

“I would have loved to play for the national team, but the thing is I am here on holiday and not for national duty. Unless authorities ask for permission from my club, I cannot join the national team,” he said.

He, nevertheless, wished the Flames all the best as they prepare for Saturday’s World Cup qualifier against Nigeria.

Nyirenda claimed that he has done well so far for his club, which is currently on second position.

Meanwhile, striker Jimmy Zakazaka, who missed Flames training on Wednesday as he was attending his nephew’s funeral, is expected to resume training [Thursday].

Jimmy lost his nephew Sostein, son to his brother Gift Zakazaka, on Tuesday morning in a road accident at Lunzu in Blantyre. Burial of the 12-year-old took place in Thyolo on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, FAM president Walter Nyamilandu and Flames coach Kinnah Phiri said their thoughts were with the bereaved family.

Said Nyamilandu: “We are saddened by the young boy’s untimely death and our thoughts are with Gift, Jimmy and the rest of the family.”
