In an interview, technical manager of the tribute concert, Benjie Ngwira, said that during the concert, they will make a formal announcement of Wambali’s new music.

“Wambali will continue to release music as he recorded songs before his passing,” he said.

Ngwira said the late musician‘s tribute concert is being organised with the full involvement of the late musician’s family.

Artists who will perform at the concert are Bishop Chimwemwe Mhango, Sangwani Munthali, Rudo Chakwera, Willie Soko and Sam Shaba.

“These are artists who also do jazz music that the late Wambali used to play. We believe they will do justice to his songs,” he said.

Ngwira said the artists will also perform a tribute medley which was released two months ago.

On his part, one of the artists set to perform at the concert, Shaba said the tribute concert is an opportunity for Malawi to honour and respect the great talent that walked on Malawi’s soil.

“The late Wambali made us proud locally and internationally with his elegance of authentic, fine-tuned traditional music that could be truly recognised as Malawian sound,” he said.

During the tribute concert, CDs of the late Wambali’s music, T-shirts and paintings will be sold. Plans are underway to hold a similar concert in Mzuzu and Blantyre.

The late Wambali Mkandawire was one of the country’s most talented musicians. Some of his popular songs include Nkhujipereka, Muli Nane, Zani Muone and Ndimbenga Sumu.
