FCB Nyasa Bullets say they have a good squad for the CAF Champions League which kicks off in August.

The club’s chief administration officer Albert Chigoga was reacting questions on to whether they have any plans to beef up the squad amid head coach Kallisto Pasuwa’s concerns on the team’s depth despite signing seven new players.

He said: “We have already signed players who are capable of performing in the CAF Champions League.

“Should there be a need to beef up, we will see as we go.”

On the prospects of losing their two key players Lanjesi Nkhoma and Patrick Mwaungulu to Democratic Republic of Congo giants TP Mazembe and the effects it might have ahead of the continental club showpiece, Chigoga said: The players will undergo medical first. Passing it will lead to successful transfer. Until then, it is premature to talk about replacements.”

In April, Pasuwa was quoted as having said the People’s Team lacked the depth to compete with the continent’s elite clubs.

“We do well locally, but we always struggle when it comes to the Champions League. So, I cannot say that we are ready,” he said.

Registration of players for the CAF inter-club tournaments will start next month.

FAM says no team has shown interest to join the CAF Confederation Cup after extending an invitation to the rest of the TNM Super League clubs.

The association cast the net wider after Silver Strikers and Mighty Mukuru Wanderers said they will not take part in the continental showpiece.

FAM club licensing and compliance manager Casper Jangale said in an interview that by the cut-off point on June 14, none of the 13 other clubs showed interest.

“This means that once again, we will only have [FCB Nyasa] Bullets taking part in a CAF inter-club tournament,” he said.

Jangale further said Bullets have completed their CAF club licensing process and the FAM First Instant Body will meet this Saturday to determine whether to grant them a licence to participate in the CAF Champions League.

“Otherwise, they have provided all the information that is required,” he said.
