Each household received 37.5 kilogrammes (kg) of maize, one litre of cooking oil, three kg super cereal and five kg of pulses.

WFP head of sub-office Peter Otto said the food items will be delivered to 8 900 displaced people currently camping in community structures that are accessible by roads.

“Access to the hardest affected areas to assess the situation has been extremely difficult as floods have washed away roads,” he said.

Speaking after receiving the relief items, one of the beneficiaries, Demister Galeta, said he is happy because he was in a hopeless situation after losing all his belongings.

The donation was handed over to World Vision International (WVI) who are coordinating response and facilitating registration of victims.
