What the tariff hike means to consumers

In its statement announcing the tariff hike, LWB says with the new tariffs, a domestic consumer will be paying K1 100 for using five cubic metres (25 drums) of water and K3 150 for using 10 cubic metres (50 drums) of water.

However, the board said save for reconnection fees, other administrative charges have not been revised.

In the commercial category, the band has been reduced from 10 cubic metres to five cubic metres to accommodate small businesses who use water on a commercial basis.

Reads the statement in part: “Lilongwe Water Board believes that although there has been such a revision of the tariffs, the impact of the new tariffs on domestic customers is manageable.

“With simple adjustments in the way you use your water, it is possible to reduce your water consumption without compromising on comfort, sanitation or hygiene and in turn reduce and manage your bills,” said the statement.—Lilongwe Water Board
