Winner rejects K1.2m TNM cash prize

Denis Nkhoma of Lilongwe on Monday stunned TNM officials and other stakeholders when he refused to get the K1.2 million (about $4 800) prize money, saying he has enough.

Nkhoma’s phone number emerged winner of the K1.2 million cash prize during the ninth draw of TNM’s Tikolore Promotion.

“I don’t want your money. I have more money than that. Give that [prize money] to others,” said Nkhoma when called by TNM officials during the draw.

He threatened to deal with TNM if it continued “playing games” with him, according to TNM media specialist Mbumba Mlia who called him.

It was not clear, as we went to press, whether Nkhoma’s reaction was based on suspicion of hoax calls to some winners of prizes as made by some con men.

Mlia said TNM would keep in touch with Nkhoma on the matter and that the company would maintain him as the winner of the ninth draw.

“We will call him [Nkhoma] again together with the National Lotteries Board for his second thoughts,” she said.

TNM has so far splashed K31.5 million of the K42 million Tikolole Promotion package. The promotion is expected to end on July 31 2012.
