Wister Phiri admits playing under pressure

Fomboni FC’s Malawian striker Wister Phiri has admitted playing under pressure in Sunday’s CAF Champions League preliminary round first-leg tie against Big Bullets.
Phiri, who is one of Fomboni’s key players, failed to rise to the occasion against his fellow Malawians.
“Obviously, the pressure was there. I was playing against a team from home and all eyes were on me.
“I tried to play my normal game, but it was not easy,” said Phiri whose contract with Fomboni runs up to 2016.
He said he is looking forward to his Kamuzu Stadium return next weekend.
“It is good going back home after sometime, but I do not see myself returning home permanently very soon,” he said.

The former Eagle Beaks and Mighty Wanderers striker says he has been offered a lucrative contract by another top club in the Comoros that finished second last season.
Phiri also brushed off suggestions that being a former Wanderers player might have added pressure on him.
He missed two clear chances against Bullets, but was quick to say it had nothing to do with his being Malawian.
Fomboni coach Ramamandry Moizy said he will be looking forward to Phiri’s inspiration in the return leg.
Meanwhile, Phiri has refused to give up despite the 0-1 loss to Bullets.
Phiri, who according to Matindi Radio commentary was a menace to Bullets defence, yesterday blamed the defeat on loose marking.
“We are looking forward to that return game. We are coming for revenge,” said Phiri. “The problem was that towards the end of the game, we let them play their passing game. We lost control. Even their goal, was a poor one.”
But Bullets coach Nsanzurwimo Ramadhan told the press after the game at Stade de Moroni that, “with the 12th player, our fans,” the People’s Team will finish off Fomboni.
