Women laud nutrition project in Mzimba

Women from traditional authorities (T/As) M’mbelwa and Kampingo Sibande in Mzimba District have hailed a livelihoods project for promoting good nutrition practices.

They said this on Wednesday during a field monitoring visit that Foundation for Community Support Services (Focus) organised to assess the impact of the Harvesting Prosperity and Resilience Project implemented in the area.

In an interview, Mary Liche, a mother of four from Mtuza in T/A M’mbelwa, said the project has empowered her to own a garden.

“I am now able to sell vegetables from my garden and use the money to develop my household,” she said.

Another beneficiary, Ruth Lungu from Kamzomela in T/A Kampingo Sibande said she now grows different crops using organic manure.

“The project trained us on how to make organic manure. The organisation also distributed goats that provide us with dung for manure,” she said.

Focus monitoring, evaluation, research and learning officer Kondwani Winge said their project is championing the implementation of different community-based interventions to fight malnutrition and hunger in the district.

Mzimba District Nutrition Coordinating Committee member Noel Mtingu said stunting cases are high in the district; hence, asking partners to continue implementing interventions promoting food security and nutrition health.
