World Vision Malawi has handed over solar-powered water kiosks to Msanduliza and Mpalo primary schools and Chinguluwe Health Centre in Ntchisi District.

The organisation installed two water kiosks each to Msanduliza and Mpalo primary schools, a kiosk at Chinguluwe Health Centre and eight kiosks in communities around Mpalo Primary School with funding from World Vision Hong Kong.

World Vision Malawi also constructed a toilet at Mpalo Primary School with funding from World Vision Singapore.

Kawale cuts a ribbon to handover the kiosk

Speaking on Thursday during the handover, Ntchisi World Vision programme manager Mereena John said they made the donation as a precautionary measure against cholera.

She said: “We work with children and we would like to see children doing good in education as well as health.

“That is why we decided to hand over water kiosks and latrines to the two primary schools and Chinguluwe Health Centre,” said John.

Msanduliza Primary School head teacher Chrissy Mchere said previously children were drawing water from a borehole in one of the villages.

“Learners had to travel to access water in a nearby village, which affected their concentration in class. Again, the availability of water will improve hygiene and sanitation among learners and teachers,” he said.

Ntchisi District Council representative Tapiwa Kawale commended World Vision for the initiative.

“We appeal to other organisations to emulate the example set by World Vision Malawi,” she said.

In 2022, World Vision Malawi also handed over 21 kiosks to communities in traditional authorities Kalumo, Vuso Jere and Chilooko.
