Communities in Traditional Authority Kameme in Chitipa District have commended World Vision Malawi for implementing interventions that have transformed people’s livelihoods.

The organisation is implementing interventions in education, agriculture, health and child protection in Kameme Area Programme.

Speaking on Monday during a joint monitoring visit by World Vision, Chitipa District Council officials and civil society organisations, Kameme Citizen Voice and Action Committee member John Silumbu attributed the good performance of pupils in the 2023 Primary School Leaving Certificate of Education (PSLCE) examinations to the organisation’s interventions.

He said: “Ilengo Primary School is one of the top 10 schools this year at national level. This is because of interventions that World Vision is implementing in the area.

“It is pleasing to know that all 42 candidates who sat the PSLCE examinations at the school passed and have been selected to secondary schools, including national secondary schools.”

Chitipa District Council director of administration Clement Gonthi also hailed World Vision for transforming people’s livelihoods in the area.

He said the interventions are holistic as they touch all aspects of people’s live.

“The interventions need to be replicated in other traditional authorities in the district to transform people’s lives,” he said.

World Vision interim district manager for Karonga and Chitipa Hendrix Kalanje said the joint monitoring

exercise should ensure accountability on what the organisation is doing in the district.

“We have to be held accountable by government. The joint monitoring exercise has added value to our work,” he said.

The monitoring team visited the K80 million irrigation scheme which is under construction and a school block at Nankhoza Primary School the organisation constructed.
