World Vision Malawi says it plans to construct a K275 million health post at Kamilamphande in Senior Chief Mwenewenya in Chitipa District.

Chitipa World Vision programmes manager Hendrix Kalanje said this on Monday when he briefed Chitipa District Executive Committee members on the project.

He said World Vision has decided to construct the health post after noting that people from Kamilamphande cover long distances to access healthcare services at Wenya Health Centre.

Kalanje: The post will
serve children

“The health post will serve children, expectant and breastfeeding mothers, thereby promoting good healthcare service delivery,” said Kalanje.

He appealed to Chitipa District Council to provide technical support and help in monitoring construction works of the project.

“It is our expectation that the council will deploy health personnel to the facility upon completion,” said Kalanje.

Chitipa district acting director of health and social services George Kasondo thanked World Vision for the initiative which he said will serve at least 5 000 people in one of the district’s remotest areas.

“According to Health Sector Strategic Plan, people are not supposed to travel long distances to hospital,” he said.

Kasondo assured the organisation that the council will deploy healthcare workers when the facility is completed.

The organisation will also drill a borehole, construct a toilet and train health management committees at the facility.

With support from World Vision UK, World Vision Malawi is implementing child protection and sponsorship and water, sanitation and hygiene projects in Mwendanjira Area Programme in Chitipa Wenya.
