WVM’s Citizen Voice and Action gains momentum in Zomba

World Vision Malawi (WVM) has said communities can do better in ensuring that there is effective service delivery from service providers in their areas through transparency and accountability.

WVM’s Citizen Voice and Action (CVA) chairperson for Chingale Area Development Programme (ADP) Tony Sande, said this in Zomba on Wednesday during a CVA awareness campaign at Mtungulusi Primary School ground in Traditional Authority Mlumbe.

Said Sande: “This event is aimed at empowering communities by raising awareness on their rights and responsibilities to demand development projects from service providers on health and education.

“Challenges communities face need attention from the service providers. For example, there is shortage of learning materials, desks, school-blocks and toilets in most of the schools in this area. Therefore, we thought of providing the platform for the citizens to take action and demand the necessities from the service providers in the education sector.”

He added that health facilities around the area are at distant places making, it difficult for patients to access medical attention in time.

“As you can see, the only government health facility here at Chingale lacks shelter for patients to be referred to Zomba Central Hospital (ZCH). So, we have to create a sense of sustainability in the communities to demand their needed development projects,” said Sande.

Drama, chorals, traditional dances and displays by pupils and health workers characterised the day.
