Youths transform art into wealth
Young people have been challenged to transform the socio-economic development of the country.
The call was made in Zomba during a youth entrepreneurship fair that the Centre for Free Market Enterprise (CFME) held at Peter’s Lodge.
During the fair, it was discovered that the majority of youths have skills that, if appropriately utilised, can transform their lives as well as the nation.
One of the exhibitions that impressed is one showcased by Ferguson Shaibu and friends.
He said through art, they do not dream of getting employed, but employ other people since their income is enough to sustain them.
“We design our art to be attractive to the public with the aim of expressing whatever happens in the society. As such, a lot of people come to purchase our products that we fail sometimes to meet the demand,” he said.
CFME executive director Peter Yakobe expressed interest with the talent on display and persuaded the youths to turn locally available resources into wealth.
He said the goal of his organisation is to instil entrepreneurship values in youths.
“We are inspired to learn that art is also an avenue to economic breakthrough. However, we advise youths don’t just copy other people’s talents but be inventive enough to create their own original entrepreneurship trademarks,” he said.
