Zambia club withdraws interest in Silver duo

Zambian top-flight club Mufulira Wanderers has reportedly withdrawn interest in two Silver Strikers players, midfielder Chimwemwe Idana and striker Binwell Katinji.

The Copperbelt side, considered the most successful club in Zambia, approached the Bankers, expressing interest to sign the two players.

Mufulira Wanderers enquired about his services: Idana

But in an interview on Thursday, Silver Strikers Company Limited chief executive officer Patrick Chimimba said Mufulira changed their mind on the duo.

“It is true, they [Mufulira] enquired about the two players, but when we asked them to make an offer, they said they had engaged other players and the matter is closed,” he said.

Efforts to get hold of Mufulira officials for their comment proved futile yesterday.

However, unconfirmed reports indicate that the Bankers decided against selling the two players upon meeting their technical panel.

Silver coach Peter ‘Mjojo’ Mponda described the development as a blessing in disguise.

He said: “Had the deal materialised, it could have been a setback for us because these are our two key players, considering that we are already lacking in some areas.

“So, to be honest, it comes as a huge relief for us in the quest for the [TNM Super League] title.”

Meanwhile, Chimimba has confirmed the imminent departure of another key forward Adiel ‘Shasha’ Kaduya for US for further studies at Masters University Calirfornia.

He said the 19-year-old blossoming forward is set to leave at the end of the first round.

“Everything is set for his trip and we wish him well,” said Chimimba.

The player said he will continue with his football career while studying.

Kaduya took the league by storm in the early stages as he led both the scorers’ chart and man-of-the-match awards.

He scored four goals in the first four matches and won three man-of-the-match awards in three matches.
