Striker Zicco Mkanda transferred his goal-scoring form from the Flames to his club Liga Desportivo de Maputo by netting a hat-trick in a Mozambique Cup 5-0 win over Ferroviaro Mahotas on Sunday afternoon.

Mkanda has built on his goal that won the Flames the Cosafa Plate trophy at the Cosafa Cup last week in South Africa to make it three cup goals for Desportivo.

His recall to the Flames for this Saturday’s Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifier against Zimbabwe is doubtful, with deputy coach Jack Chamangwana saying it will depend on the form of Esau Kanyenda and Atusaye Nyondo.

“This was a knockout game and we have now qualified for the quarter-final. The feeling is quite awesome and a morale booster for me,” Mkanda said yesterday.

In another Mozambique league game, Chawanangwa Kawonga also scored as his Chibuto club beat Moses Chavula’s ENL also on Sunday.

Goalkeeper Simplex Nthala kept a clean sheet to help Maxaquene clinch a 1-0 win over Incomat on Saturday.
