Zomba City Queens thrashed Sitima Yoce Sisters 14-0 at Zomba Community Centre ground on Saturday to tighten their lead in the Arthur Peter Mutharika Southern Region Women Football League.

Goals from Loveness Nyakamera, Enelesi Mhango, Ulemu Phiri, Tisadane Bokosi and Kawanangwa Kamanga glued Sitima Sisters to the bottom of the table with no point from eight games.

Nyakamera scored four times to increase her tally to 11.

The Zomba City Council-sponsored side now has 24 points from eight games.

City Queens coach Gift Chiphikire said they have started the second round with a ‘score-more-goals-campaign’ to strengthen their first title chase.

“We would like to score more goals in this final round because if we happen to lose a single game, we will be doomed due to an inferior aggregate. Much as we know we are favourites to win the title if we win our remaining games, we would like to lead on the scores as well,” said Chiphikile.

In other results, Ntopwa Super Queens eked a surprise 5-0 triumph over ATU Ladies (formerly Blantyre Zero Youth) at Chiwembe ground. Evirom Sisters won 2-0 against Dreams United at the same venue.

The match between Blantyre Zero and fourth-placed Topik Super Queens was postponed to a later date.
