Speaking later, Bulla said he undertook the gesture to ensure that the patients do not feel isolated during the festive season.

He said: “Most of them [the patients], including the guardians will not be spending time with their families as it is expected. This is the reason I decided to visit them and share the spirit of Christmas.”

In his vote of thanks, Zomba Central Hospital director Martias Joshua commended the mayor for the gesture, saying it will alleviate the resource challenges faced by most patients,.

The mayor visited the female ward, tuberculosis ward and prison ward.
