World Vision Malawi (WVM) on Monday joined the people of Zomba in commemorating the World Toilet Day at Namitembo Primary School in Chingale in the district.

Speaking at the function, Zomba district water and sanitation desk officer Lephan Mandala said   three years have passed without registering a cholera outbreak in the district.

“Zomba was one of the districts hugely affected by cholera because of its proximity to Lake Chilwa, but right now, years have passed by without cholera cases as issues of sanitation have been taken seriously in the district.

“Almost each and every household in the district has got a toilet and we have health workers who go to households to sensitise people to sanitation,” said Mandala.

Zomba WVM cluster manager Jacob Mazibuko commended the people for accepting to be part of the sanitation projects.

He said WVM was celebrating the day together with the Global Week of Action which is aimed at raising the welfare of children.
