APM appoints Teaching Service Commission

Malawi President Peter Mutharika has appointed a 12-member Teaching Service Commission, The Nation has learnt.

In a letter dated November 24 2014 and signed by principal secretary in the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology Lonely Magreta, the President is asking the chairperson of the Public Appointments Committee (PAC) of Parliament Lingson Belekanyama to vet them.

Belekanyama confirmed the appointments, but could not give more details regarding when interviews would be conducted.

He said: “I have that information, but I cannot say when my office will begin the interviews because of the backlog that is there already.”

According to the letter, the proposed names include Joseph Matola from Zomba, Albert Mlambala from Salima, Grace Banda from Mzimba, Chris Dondwe from Dedza, Hazel Manda from Blantyre, John Bisika from Zomba, Frazer Maseya from Chiradzulu, Mark Tembo from Nsanje, sister Eunice Dambo, Catherine Mashunga from Chiradzulu, Mrs J.P Ndisale from Zomba and S. Kalombe from Balaka.

Currently, PAC is failing to conduct interviews for the second round of ambassadors, legal aid director and deputy due to lack of funding.
