After making many telling saves in the just-ended season, Flames goalkeeper Richard Chipuwa makes his biggest catch this Friday when he gets engaged to his girlfriend and biggest fan Dinnah Hxaviel in Blantyre.

The Wanderers acrobatic ‘keeper, who has been swapping the Flames’ number one jersey with McDonald Harawa of Moyale Barracks, confirmed that he would make the most of the festive period by having the engagement ceremony at Kings Garden, opposite Blantyre Post Office.

“This issue of relationships can be a distraction to one’s career if not handled properly. You need to stick to one partner and this is exactly what I have done. She encourages me to work hard and I am hoping for more things in my career,” Chipuwa said.

Going forward, Chipuwa suggested that he might listen to offers from teams across the borders, especially in Mozambique “but there is nothing concrete on the table yet”.

After grabbing the TNM Super League championship early this month, Big Bullets consultant coach Nsanzurwimo Ramadhan suggested on taking Chipuwa on board as one of the targets for the CAF Champions League campaign.

However, Chipuwa insists that he has not been approached by any team and if he does not get an offer from a foreign team, he will stay at the Lali Lubani Road. The girlfriend also said she was encouraging Chipuwa to seek greener pastures across the borders.

“I encourage him to go jogging every morning and go to the gym every evening. Of course, I get disappointed when he concedes goals. Sometimes, he says it is not his fault, but my advice has always been that he must take responsibility even when it is another player’s fault leading to a goal,” said Dinnah.

Chipuwa comes from Kuwenza Village, Traditional Authority (T/A) Changata in Thyolo whereas Hxaviel comes from T/A Makwangwala in Ntcheu.

The engagement comes a week after Flames striker Zicco Mkanda tied the matrimonial knot with Ireen Ngosi on Saturday in Blantyre.
