There can never be a great combination than a weekend with family, music and great food and the few patrons that attended the first ever food festival at the Malawi Square at Umodzi Park in Lilongwe should attest to that.

Beside the music by some of the country’s cream of musicians and food by international chefs who prepared Indian, Chinese and local cuisine, among others, the audience was also treated to poetry as well as children’s games.

The event ended on a high note on Sunday as both the young and old were treated to music by Blaze and Great Angels, among others.

Organisers, Ovation Advertising said the festival has achieved its key purpose of allowing patrons across all ages to have fun through food and music.

“We delivered the first ever Malawi’s food and music festival with over 15 food service providers participating. We have managed to achieve our intended goal of creating an event that will fill the gap in the entertainment space. We have created a unique family entertainment to be looked forward to,” said Chimwemwe Matonga of Ovation Advertising.

He said though the festival started on a low note on Friday, it picked up in the last days.

“Turn up was good on Saturday and Sunday. Actually, this is here to stay; it is an annual event,” said Matonga.

He confessed that, being the first time to hold it, they found it hard to attract partners and sponsors.

However, Matonga was hopeful that, building on this year’s experience, they will make subsequent events better.

Other artists that performed during the event include Giddes Chalamanda, Edgar ndi Davis and Lulu as well as DJs Maya and Ice.
