Red Lions have bolstered their squad with five new players, hoping they can help the Zomba soldiers achieve their target of finishing in the top-three band of next season’s TNM Super League.

The impact of the new signings has been instant as striker Phillip Kishombe scored a double as the Lions drew 3-3 with Big Bullets in a flood victim fundraising match played at Kamuzu Stadium on Saturday.

The Lions coach Collins Nkuna said he signed Kishombe from Karonga alongside goalkeeper Wanipa Gondwe. The other new comers are brothers Maxwell and Francis Nohito, originally from Thyolo, but recruited from Mzuzu whereas Shadreck Kaungwe comes from Mponela, in Dowa.

Nkuna said his target was to better their last season’s sixth place finish that yielded 42 points, 20 points behind champions Big Bullets.

“Phillip has a good start as you saw he has scored. We have only been in training for a week focusing on the gym workout to enhance endurance. Our target is to try and fight for some honours and also a top-three league finish,” Nkuna said.

Adding to the new arrivals is the return to training of striker Innocent Bokosi whereas Boniface Kaulesi, who missed a better part of last season through injury, is also reportedly back.

No Army team won silverware last season with Moyale Barracks to finish second to Bullets.
