The National Women Football Committee (NWFC) has finally received the long-awaited K9 million ($18 000) sponsorship from the Football Association of Malawi (FAM) for the Under-20 Women’s Cup final to be played on February 8 2015 at Luwinga Sports Complex in Mzuzu.

The national finals were scheduled to be played on January 10 this year, but the committee’s chairperson Severia Chalira said they were postponed due to lack of funds.

“Our sponsor Fifa, through FAM, has released the money and right now it is in our account, so we have set the finals for Sunday, February 8 2015 at Luwinga Sports Complex in Mzuzu.

“Everything is set. All necessary communication has been made and we are, therefore, urging the public to come and witness the event,” she said.

NWFC launched the tournament last year, targeting Under-20 players from school teams and clubs in all regions.

This year three teams from all regions are expected to battle it out for the national championship crown.

The three regional champions for the finals played in December are Blantyre Zero (South), DD Sunshine (Centre) and Moyale Youth (North).

The regional champions received K750 000 (about $1 500) each while the national champions will pocket K1.5 million $3 000).
