A Mother’s Day gospel show scheduled for October 15 themed ‘Mama I love you’ will contribute to this year’s Nation Publications Limited (NPL) Mother’s Day Fun Run project. The show will take place at Blantyre Cultural Centre (BCC).

The show is organised by Five Star Entertainment and brings on stage some of the country’s gospel stars. For the first time, Ethel Kamwendo-Banda, Grace Chinga and Patience Namadingo will sing with one voice. The three have composed Lemekeza, a song that celebrates the mother’s love and care. They will perform the song live on stage during the show.

According to Raymond Sekeni, events manager for Five Star Entertainment, ‘Mama I love you’ has been organised to create fun and as a special treat to mothers. He said his office appreciates the role of mothers and the care they give to children. As such, they are taking advantage of Mothers Day to celebrate with them in a music show.

Sekeni added that they considered using part of the proceeds of the show to support a safe motherhood and maternal health project. He said the objective is to give back the money to its source—mothers, hence choosing NPL’s Mother’s Day Fun Run.

“We are in the same line and to show our appreciation for the impact the Mother’s Day Fun Run project is having to Malawian women, we have dedicated part of the proceeds from the show to supporting the project. We met officials at NPL and they are happy that we recognise their work and that we have chosen to be part of the project by donating some cash, “he said.

Confirming the agreement, NPL’s business development manager Chigomezgo Gondwe-Chokani said they are happy that companies continue to recognise the impact of the Mothers Day Fun Run project on the country.

“It is true, we have signed an agreement with Five Star Entertainment and they have pledged to give us a certain percentage of the proceeds which will go towards supporting the Mothers Day Fun Run. We are happy because they have recognised the project and have decided to support it. We will make sure their contribution goes towards securing the future of Malawi’s mothers and children,” said Gondwe-Chokani.

Mothers Day Fun Run was launched in 2005 and over the years, it has donated various items to several hospitals. It has already made two successful cycles across the country and the third cycle will be completed this year with a donation to Rumphi Hospital and its satellite health centres. In eight years, NPL has mobilised over K60 million worth of maternal health care items for health facilities in the country.
