Song Title : Lemekeza a Mayi

Artists : Patience Namadingo, Grace Chinga and Ethel Kamwendo Banda

Songwriter : Patience Namadingo

Reviewer : Mayamiko Seyani

Women are blessed—more especially mothers. They are blessed with the gift of giving life. Patience Namadingo, Ethel Kamwendo and Grace Chinga take different vantage points to pay tribute to mothers. Ethel justifies her means for the greater good to fulfill her duty to her son—making sure he grows up to be a respectable man.

Patience plays son who is asking a lot of questions to his mother as to why she is so strict. The mother never allows him to go out clubbing. Patience uses slang and one can clearly see that he [the persona] belongs to thedot.com generation.

Grace Chinga took the role of a counsellor advising the youth to respect their mothers.

Patience’s voice stands out as he takes on a chorus that is harmoniously backed by Grace Chinga and Ethel Kamwendo.

The originality of the song is clearly audible from the beat to the voices—even Chinga did not sound like Rabecca Malope as she always does.

Because a song like this is a theme song for Mama I love You gospel Party which will take place at Blantyre Cultural Centre, one can really bet one grand just to watch this great collaboration.
