‘Sunday school helps beyond spiritual life’

Chairperson for Blantyre City Presbytery, Kelvin Wanda, says Sunday school is fundamental to human, social and spiritual growth.

He spoke after finals of children’s talent promotion contest for the presbytery held at Michiru CCAP church in Chilomoni recently.

He noted that children who regularly attend Sunday school perform better in secular schools.

“Not only do children relate better with parents, friends and relatives or strangers, they also do well in class. Parents are, therefore, encouraged to send their children to Sunday school,” he said.

The annual promotion has been running since April this year. Children compete in story-telling, verse recitals, poetry, drama and choral music.

The first two winners in each category at presbytery level will face other winners at the synod finals slated for August 30.

St. Columba and Nkolokoti came first and second in the drama category respectively while PTS topped the choral category followed by Bangwe.

Kachere CCAP’s Dyna Matumula won the verse recitals, seconded by Vanessa Mello of Nkolokoti.

Ruth Mayaya of Manase and Ester Chimwala of Kachere CCAP won the story-telling category. Christina Banda of Nkolokoti and Yankho Kachala shined in the poems category.

Chief judge Jeremiah Mpombeza said the competition was stiff and that five judges struggled to choose winners.
