2014 elections: A test for Malawians’ faith

Resident pastor for Mabiri CCAP Church, Reverend Bannet Zimba, has described the 2014 Tripartite Elections as a litmus test for Malawians’ faith in God.

Zimba has, however, assured that the test is not aimed at destroying, but strengthening the nation.

He made the remarks in a telephone interview on Thursday when Nation on Sunday sought his interpretation of the events that followed the May 20 elections.

“God is testing our faith. Of course, suffice to emphasise that His motive isn’t to bring down our nation, but rather to build it. This is our spiritual furnace from which we can come out stronger in our faith or bruised depending on how we handle the situation,” explained Zimba.

The cleric said there was need for supporters of all political parties to maintain peace and avoid inflammatory language that can fan civil strife.

Zimba also appealed to leaders of all political parties to prioritise dialogue in all their dealings if Malawi is to win the battle against the test.
