President Joyce Banda has offered K1 million (US$3 115) to Kanjedza Assemblies of God Church for the expansion of the church’s building.

Presidential advisor on religious affairs Reverend Malani Mtonga presented the money to the church’s pastor Reverend Benito Chisamba at Sunbird Mount Soche in Blantyre, where the church organised dinner to raise K10 million (US$31 152).

“Her Excellency has sent me to present the donation as she realises that governments are shouldered by the Church. God communicates to political leaders through Church.

“We appreciate the role the Church plays in offering spiritual guidance to the public regardless of political affiliation. It is a place where the sick, the rejected and the confused people run to for solutions to their problems,” said Mtonga.

Minister of Transport Sidik Mohammed Mia, who failed to accompany Mtonga due to other engagements, donated K500 000 (US$1 557) towards the project. Candlex Limited provided hampers, which were auctioned.
