Artists to spice up Cape Maclear Triathlon Marathon
Top DJs from Switzerland and Malawi will be part of the Cape Maclear Trithlon Sports event which is slated to take place from August 18 to 20 at Cape Maclear in Mangochi.
Mizu Foundation chairperson Peter Thompson said though it is a sports and tourism event, his organisation thought of adding fun to it through continuous live music performances during the event.
“We have invited some of the top DJs based in Scandinavia and Germany. We also have local artists such as Tay Grin and Theo Thompson. We want people to have fun as we expect a lot of visitors from outside the country,” said Thompson during the launch of the event in Lilongwe.
The launch was attended by, among other dignitaries, director in the ministry of tourism Patricia Liabuba, who hailed the initiative as a way of boosting sports tourism.
“As government, we encourage such initiatives and we pledge to support your activities. This will go a long way in boosting tourism, especially sports tourism,” she said.
Liabuba said through such initiatives, many other tourism-related projects can be realised.
The Triathlon will include canoeing, 17 kilometre cycle race and 10 kilometre running race. There will also be a swimming competition, beach soccer and beach volleyball games, among others. Mobile phone service provider TNM has pumped in K8 million towards the event. Other partners who have contributed towards the Cape Maclear Trithlon Sports event are Carlsberg Malawi, DHL, Malawian Airlines, Annie’s Lodge and Mike Appel and Gatto.
