CFTC, Comesa competition commission sign MoU
Competition and Fair Trading Commission (CFTC) of Malawi and the Comesa Competition Commission (CCC) have formalised their partnership as one way of deepening the Common Market for Eastern Africa (Comesa) regional integration agenda.
Speaking in Lilongwe on Friday after the two entities signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU), CCC chief executive officer George Lipimile said the cooperation agreement is critical as it provides a setting in which the two can compare policy experiences, seek answers to common problems, identify good practices and work to coordinate domestic and regional policies.
“We believe that this MoU will enhance our working relationship in the years ahead,” he said.
Ministry of Industry and Trade principal secretary Charles Kambauwa said government adopted the competition policy following adoption of globalisation and market-oriented reforms, which included market liberalisation and deregulation aimed at enhancing efficiency and competitiveness of domestic markets.
