Scorchers defender Chimwemwe Madise has joined Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) women’s football giants TP Mazembe on a two-year deal.

The ‘Bulldozer’ has left Zambian top-flight league side Elite Ladies FC after a three-year stint to join her compatriot and fellow striker Sabina Thom at the Congolese outfit.

Madise: It was a great experience

Madise, who is already in Lubumbashi, DRC, was not available for comment yesterday, but she confirmed her move on her Facebook page.

She wrote: “The journey continues… Glad to announce my new move in my career as I have joined TP Mazembe.

“It was a great experience being in Zambia for three good years and I thank Elite Ladies FC for making me feel at home, from the management, technical panel and my fellow players.”

Madise last played for Elite Ladies on March 24 when she captained the team in a 2-1 win over Zisd.

Writing on Facebook, Elite Ladies extended best wishes to Madise as she starts a new lease of life at Mazembe.

Said the Lusaka-based club: “Chimwemwe, the greatest foreign player to play in the ZPL, spent a full three years at the Elite Ladies FC and even if we triggered an extra year, which was legal in the contract, we eventually cancelled the extension to allow her pursue another chapter in her career.

“She was a true professional during her stay with us with no problems on and off the pitch. Together with [fellow Malawian] Madyina Ngulube, we were so lucky to have had the best foreign recruits any club can ever have such that we wish her the best in her career.”

National Women’s Football Association chairperson Adellaide Migogo described the development as a blessing, saying TP Mazembe are a big club that can help to expose Madise to top overseas clubs.
