The defending champions restored their lead through Burundian striker Aimable Niyikiza before recess.

They managed to hold on to the lead in the second-half to bag full points.

The victory was a relief to coach Franco Ndawa who started with a goalless draw against Moyale Barracks on the first day of the season.

After the game, Ndawa thanked his charges for the win in a post-match interview monitored on MBC Radio 2.

Red Lions coach Mike Kumanga accepted defeat saying Big Bullets were a better side of the day.

Bullets now have four points.

In other games played yesterday, Kamuzu Barracks wrapped their tour of the Northern Region with another loss to Mzuzu University (Mzuni).

The Lilongwe based soldiers, who lost 3-1 to Moyale Barracks at the same venue on Saturday, lost with the same scoreline against the students.

Civo United also collected maximum points after beating Mafco 3-2.

Dwangwa, who drew one-all with Wanderers on Saturday, have avoided defeat in their first outing after holding fellow newcomers Max Bullets at Kamuzu Stadium.

Blue Eagles are leading the table with six points from victories over Dwangwa and Epac FC. n
