Diamonds take Rainbow Paints Netball League lead
Defending champions Kukoma Diamonds thrashed Young Professionals 156-3 at Blantyre Youth Centre (BYC) on Saturday to take the lead in the Rainbow Paints Southern Region Netball League (SRNL).
The emphatic victory means the Griffin ‘Zagalo’ Saenda-coached side has displaced Tigresseses from the summit of the nine-team league with 12 points from four-straight wins.
They are at the top of the ladder due to a better basket difference as they are tied on points and number of games with second-placed Thunder Queens, who beat Prison Sister 55-42 last weekend.
“We are back to where we belong and I do not think any other team will topple us. Our mission is to complete our fixtures with a clean sheet and we are not looking back,” said Diamonds assistant coach Noel Mussa.
Tigresseses have now dropped to third position with 10 points from three wins and a draw while Serenity Stars, who overpowered Chilomoni Sisters 71-35, are fourth with nine points from four games.
Shizaella Queens chalked their first win in four matches when they grabbed a 47-17 triumph over Gerald Tasaukadala Sisters to move a place up to sixth place with three points.
Prison Sisters are stuck on fifth place with four points after four games.
According to SRNL general secretary Annie Hanjahanja-Billie, the competition is running smoothly and they will slot in more midweek games to cope with the pressure of delayed league throw-off.
Normally, the league starts in May but it began in July. n
